Food Quality Technologist Christchurch


LSG Sky Chefs New Zealand Ltd is a provider of in-flight services including airline catering, in-flight equipment, and logistics as well as the management of onboard service and in-flight retail. In New Zealand, LSG Sky Chefs has facilities in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.  We also manufacture ready-to-eat retail products that are sold through a variety of outlets nationally.

We are looking for a qualified Quality Technologist with at least two years post-graduate experience to help monitor, oversee and improve the food safety and food quality processes and outcomes in our Christchurch location. You will have completed a bachelor's degree in food science, technology, or other relevant scientific discipline and have at least two years’ experience as an operationally focussed quality control and or quality assurance technologist in a food manufacturing business.  You must have a working knowledge of the food regulations and FSSC 22000.

You will provide advice to the Station Manager Christchurch.  You will report to and be supported by the National Quality Manager and a team of food safety and food quality specialists based in Auckland.

The position is responsible for supporting the effective implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of food safety and quality systems in Christchurch. This role ensures compliance with regulatory, customer, and internal standards, while providing technical support and training to operational teams to consistently deliver safe and high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands‑on food safety and quality assurance support in a high‑risk, MPI‑regulated food environment, including 7‑day operational coverage
  • Monitor, verify, and maintain HACCP programmes and Food Control Plan (FCP) compliance in line with legislative and MPI requirements
  • Conduct daily food safety, hygiene, and Halal floor audits, implement corrective actions, and complete regulatory reporting
  • Perform cleaning verification, microbiological sampling, and validation activities, including Listeria control programmes
  • Support food safety risk assessments, equipment calibration, and compliant record keeping
  • Maintain, analyse, and report quality data, demonstrating proficiency in working across multiple digital platforms and databases to support verification, traceability, and operational decision‑making
  • Investigate customer complaints and trend performance to support continuous improvement
  • Participate in and support internal, external, customer, and MPI audits, including CAPA implementation
  • Support staff training and collaborative problem‑solving initiatives
  • Demonstrate practical working knowledge of Halal requirements, including ingredient compliance, certification standards, and audit support

To be successful you will need to be practical and organised but flexible approach to your work.  You will bring your critical thinking abilities and scientific approach to problem solving and work collaboratively across all functional teams.  You will need to be able to build a strong collegial relationship with operational managers and the wider Quality team.  You need the strength to stand your ground when it matters while also meeting business operational goals.
